who will enjoy a simple and drinkable bourbon and MGP fans.
WORTH THE PRICE: This
one is at the upper echelon of bottom-shelf whiskey. I would not go above MSRP.
BOTTLE, BAR, OR BUST: This is
a Bar rating. A very average Bourbon lacking much depth.
OVERALL: Redemption High Rye Bourbon is something I've
been hemming and hawing about for the last year. It has a very attractive,
low-entry price and is from MGP, something only a few years ago was sneered at
and suddenly treasured.
I hoped Redemption High Rye
Bourbon would be an opportunity to #RespectTheBottomShelf, but this didn't make
my cut of a great low-cost gem. There was nothing really wrong with this
Bourbon; it just was very average with a punch of ethanol despite allowing it
to rest about 20 minutes before sipping.
I don't want to leave the
impression this is a bad whiskey because it isn't. But it also isn't a shining
star. Yet, when one of the best things about a whiskey is its creamy mouthfeel,
that's not something that wets my whistle.
This would be a good
Bourbon to use in cocktails. There are some robust flavors. But it also drinks
a lot more than its proof statement.
Try this one at a Bar (or
friend's house) before committing to a bottle. MGP fans should also try this to
get a complete idea of what they offer. Cheers!
