A Memorial to My Dad

This project is now a year old and coming along nicely. If you don't know the story behind it, these are my Dad's tuxedo suspenders. He passed away a year ago last Sunday (on Father's Day of all things).

Dad was very proud of what I do with whiskey, even though he never cared for whiskey himself (gin was his jam). When we were cleaning out his stuff, Mrs. Whiskeyfellow suggested I keep these suspenders and hang them in my whiskey library.

I had been collecting distillery pins for the last few years and they were just sitting in a drawer. But, if I took those pins and hung them on the suspenders, then I could show them off and have a piece of Dad around where I spend most of my weekdays.

There's already a Plan B in place should the day come when I run out of room on Dad's suspenders. Mrs. Whiskeyfellow's Dad passed away in 2017, and as luck may have it, we have a pair of his suspenders as well. She's already green-lighted it.

When I'm pondering life, I'm usually facing these suspenders. It is like Dad is here with me.

If you've lost a loved one, have you done something unusual to memorialize them?
