September means it is Bourbon Heritage Month. For the last eleven years, I’ve hosted the 30 Days of Bourbon Challenge. I firmly believe in whiskey karma: Do good things in whiskey's name, and it will return you in kind. That is the heart and soul of this Challenge.
For the last nine years,
I’ve asked people to donate $30.00 (or more) to any charity they choose. This
year, Mrs. Whiskeyfellow requested we support Ma, Paws & Me Pet Rescue,
which is the rescue that helped introduce us to our awesome dog, Cinder. You
can learn more about the charity by clicking on that link.
The Challenge has ten super
simple rules:
Rule 1: The
goal is to drink 30 different Bourbons – one each day – throughout September.
Rule 2: This
is a Bourbon challenge. Drink any whiskey you want, but remember, you must sip Bourbon,
too.
Rule 3: Tennessee
Whiskey legally meets every standard of Bourbon. ‘Nuff said.
Rule 4: Different
proofs count as different Bourbons. Yeah, that’s different than in previous
years.
Rule 5: Brands offering Bourbon made from different mashbills or yeast strains count as individual Bourbons, as do other barrel finishes.
Rule 6: Sourcing matters not. A different brand is a different brand.
Rule 7: Different horsey stoppers from Blanton’s don’t count as
different Bourbons, but different barrel numbers do.
Rule 8:
Cocktails count so long as you can identify the Bourbon.
Rule 9: At
the end of the Challenge, donate $30.00 or more to whatever charity you desire.
Please give them a shout-out. Tag them. Awareness is key!
Rule 10: Don’t
stress out. The Challenge is supposed to be fun. You don’t need to drink even
an ounce; a sip works fine.
If you want to log your Challenge on social media, download your 30 Days of Bourbon Drinking Calendar and fill it out (here’s the link). Post daily, weekly, or whenever you want. Feel free to use the hashtags #30DaysofBourbon and tag @whiskeyfellow.
Part of enjoying Bourbon is
about sharing with friends. So if you don’t have enough Bourbon on hand for all
30 days, find a friend and do this together; that way, you both can try
something new.
Will you join me? What
charity will you support?
Cheers!
Whiskeyfellow encourages you
to enjoy your whiskey as you see fit, but begs you to do so responsibly.
