Autumn
is the season for Bourbon creams. Have you ever had one? If the answer is No,
then you’ve unknowingly (and unfairly) deprived yourself of one of life’s more
magical moments. Dairy cream and Bourbon may sound like a weird combination, but
it is authentically awesome.
Of
course, that’s if it is done correctly. You see, there’s a right way to
do Bourbon creams, and then there’s the other way. The right way is to use real
dairy cream (you know, from cows) and natural flavors. Another approach is to
use chemicals and artificial sweeteners. If you pick up a bottle and see that
crap on the label, set it back down, back away slowly, then turn and run.
Rebel
Bourbon isn’t new to the Bourbon cream scene;
however, this year, Rebel
Butter Pecan Bourbon Cream joins its lineup. It
is a blend of its classic, wheated Bourbon and real cream (again, from cows).
“We used our award-winning Bourbon for the foundation and gave it a unique twist to create Rebel Butter Pecan Bourbon Cream. With a warm wheated finish, it’s smooth enough to sip on its own or enjoy as a bold and decadent complement to coffee or Rebel Bourbon cocktails.” – John Rempke, Master Distiller
Since
one of Mrs. Whiskeyfellow’s favorite flavors is butter pecan, she will be
joining me on this #DrinkCurious expedition. We’re both grateful to Rebel
Bourbon for providing us a sample in exchange for this no-strings-attached,
honest review.

Appearance: We used
rocks glasses to sip this Bourbon liqueur. The mocha coloring was as expected.
Nose: Mrs. Whiskeyfellow
said the nose was very light. I had to agree with her. Pecans were relatively
easy to identify; from my standpoint, there seemed to be a lot of caramel.
Palate: The
mouthfeel was described as luscious and luxurious by Mrs. Whiskeyfellow. I found
it dense and creamy. We both agreed it stuck to the mouth and throat. The butter
pecan quality was unmistakable. There were also caramel, toffee, and chocolate
flavors.
Finish: Chocolate
came through hard on the finish. There was absolutely no alcohol burn to deal
with. Although the duration was brief, the creamy sensation lingered for
several minutes.
Bottle, Bar, or Bust: Mrs.
Whiskeyfellow described this as “the perfect morning coffee for the meeting
that should have been an email.” I chuckled, both because it is funny and true.
Rebel Butter Pecan Bourbon Cream is only 30°, so unless you’re a lightweight
drinker, you’ll hardly realize it is an adult beverage.
We both loved it, and it is
something we can’t wait to share with our friends (assuming there is any left).
For $20.00, you’re getting a treat, and it is well worth my Bottle
rating. Cheers!
