Today is Bottled-in-Bond Day, celebrating the passage of the Bottled-in-Bond Act of 1897. It was one of the first consumer protection laws and guaranteed the quality of American spirits carrying the Bonded label.
Bonded whiskeys
must be made entirely in the USA, be a product of one distillery by a single
distiller in a single distilling season (January to June or July to December).
It must be aged for at least 4 years in a government-bonded warehouse and
packaged at 50% ABV (100°). The label must also clearly state who distilled the
whiskey and, if different, where it was bottled.
Bottled-in-Bond
is one of my favorite niche categories. Enjoy today, and celebrate responsibly.
Cheers!
